Stub welding Service

HAH specializes in stub welding of alloy steel and non-magnetic stainless steel drilling tools. During the life cycle of a drilling tool’s, it will undergo several joint rework or it will be taken out of service. Our stub welding services allow for adding material to the end of drilling tools and post-weld machining to bring the tools back to their new dimensional condition. HAH stub welding services can reduce your total cost of ownership by increasing the overall life of your equipment.

Method of Stub Welding:

Our specialized welding methods such as Submerged ARC, Hot Wire GTAW, and Friction Welding produces the best weld possible. Our stub welding systems are fully automated ensuring repeatable welds at the highest quality level. Each weld is inspected to ensure the absence of any defects in accordance with ASME BPVC Section IX.

-
Submerged ARC is a welding process that requires a continuously fed consumable solid or tubular electrodes. The molten weld and arc zone are protected from contamination because they are "submerged" under the granular flux, which provides a current path between the deep weld penetration and the possibility of spatter being under the weld flux.
-
Hot wire GTAW is a welding process that uses a tungsten electrode to produce the weld. A constant current is conducted across the arc through a column of ionized gas. This process provides more control over the weld than other methods, allowing for stronger, higher quality welds.
-
Friction welding is a solid-state welding process that generates heat through mechanical friction, which with additional lateral forces causes plastic displacement and joins materials into a part. Friction welding forms each part, resulting in excellent metallurgical properties of the joint. There is no melting, so solidification defects such as gas porosity and segregation do not occur.
